Alfred told us about your unbelievably beautiful winery. We were thrilled to come here to see the majesty of your home. Judy took us on a wonderful tour and then fed us with a delicious meal. This is the first day of an adventure that officially began in the summer of 2004, and unofficially began a long time before with an insistent and merciless bombardment of my dear husband Alessandro. So many people have patiently and resolutely helped us. Among these many, I wish to mention Tinto, Jennifer, Ferroni – who I believe has been taking care of the “walls” of Sonnino for five generations, and in any case it is recorded that the tower was rebuilt in 1900 by a Ferroni. My children, my husband and Mr. Malandrini all put up with me regardless of my hysteria. My mother said that we ought to repair the clock in the tower, so that it would ring out and bring this wonderful place back to life. We repaired the clock. Alessandro believed in reviving the vineyards and the cellars, and so he set to planting out, clearing, repairing.
I think of the future of Virginia and Leone, of my old age if God is so good as to give me health, because when no-one wants to see me or take me here and there any more, at least I will be able to chat with the passing travellers and remain cheerful without bothering my children. It was extremely important for me to create a place of passage and so I restored and set up the shop. We have opened today, even though things are still somewhat makeshift, because the 1st of April is a very important date for me in terms of love, and love was the primary driving force that gave us the strength and tenacity to bring this – believe me, genuinely INFINITE! – labour to completion.
